The 23rd annual event was held this spring in Moore County. Senior Games in the Pines is sanctioned by North Carolina Senior Games, Inc.
NCSG, Inc. is sponsored statewide by the North Carolina Division of Aging.
SGP is part of a network of 53 Local Games held for all 100 counties of North Carolina. It consists of two divisions of competition -- Silver Arts for the creative person and official sports for those more athletically inclined. Senior Games is a wellness and health promotion program that includes fun, fitness and fellowship.
This year most participants qualified to compete in the North Carolina Senior Games State Finals in the fall. This is a qualifying year for the National Senior Sports Classic which will be in Louisville, Ky., in 2007. State Finals winners may qualify to represent North Carolina in these exciting Games.
Participants compete in age and sex categories. Winners are as follows:

Four men's softball teams qualified to compete in State Finals by competing in three games.

These teams will compete at Walnut Creek Softball Complex on September 11 – 13. This is a qualifying year for Nationals.
There are also four basketball teams qualified to represent Senior Games in the Pines at State Finals, which will be October 27-29 in Greenville at East Carolina University. The women's teams are as follows: The Netters (55+) – Beth Whit-man, Captain, Lois Ashley, Joann Cameron, Leone McLester and Mary Vaughn; the Granny Bearcats (60+) include – Frances Caudill, Captain, Velna Brady, Laverne Davis, Peggy Greene, Sarah Lane, Mildred Moore and Judy Phillips.
The Men's (55+) team is Jack Hussey, Captain, Robert Bedd-ingfield, Tom Ferrell, Harry Lancaster, William McIlwain and Jim Streckfus. The Men's (70+) team is John Gaida, Captain, Bill Greene, James Griffin, John Sheridan, Bernie Truby and Harold Williams.
The non-competitive Silver Striders Fun Walkers are also eligible to participate in State Finals. Those completing the one-mile walk were Erma Burley, Mary Crusius, Diane Dash, Jackie Davis, Anne Fortman, Dick Fortman, Don Hammer-man, John Heerema, Ginny Heerema, Jack Hussey, Edith Kennedy, Jack Kennedy, Sarah Lane, and La-Von Morales. Marjorie Moran, Sarah Morden, Shirley Morrison, Era Mae Rickman, W. F. Ritter, Oleen Ritter, Nancy Ronalter, Mittie Seawell, Gladys Shamblin, Judy Smith, Bernie Truby, Daisy Watson, Alfred Wiggins, Patricia Wiggins and Ivy Wilczewski also completed the Fun Walk.
Qualifiers have until August 1 to register to represent Senior Games in the Pines at the State level.
