Virginia K. Stevens

Virginia Kay Stevens, 65, died Monday, June 26, 2006, at her home in Pinehurst.

The family will receive friends Wednesday (today) from 6 to 8 p.m. at Boles Funeral Home in Pinehurst.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, July 1, at 11 a.m. at The Village Chapel in Pinehurst with Pastor Dean Engebretson and Chaplain Glen Miller officiating.

A reception will follow in the church fellowship hall. A private family inurnment will be held at Pinelawn Memorial Park in Southern Pines.

Born in Albert Lea, Minn., to the late Virgil and Nettie Lucille Stuart Tollifson, she graduated from Methodist Kahler School of Nursing in Rochester, Minn. (affiliated with the Mayo Clinic).

Prior to moving to Pinehurst in 1997, she was the admissions coordinator for the eating disorder unit at Western Psychiatric Hospital in Pittsburgh, Pa.

Mrs. Stevens was active in numerous volunteer organizations such as parent leadership training, Bible study fellowship, and community Bible study. She served as a deacon in her church, taught Sunday school, and directed the children's choir.

On moving to Pinehurst, Mrs. Stevens became active in the Christ Community Church in Southern Pines. She was the leader of the Pinewild women's Bible study.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Ann Elizabeth Stevens Edwards.

Mrs. Stevens is survived by her husband, William Stevens; her son, William Stevens Jr. and his wife, Esther, of Charlotte; her daughter, Alison Kay Nelson and her husband, Carl, of Gaithersburg, Md.

She is also survived by her brothers, Jerry Tollifson of Columbus, Ohio, and Virgil Tollifson, of Seattle, Wash.; her sister, Dorothy Walker of La Jolla, Calif.; and two grandchildren, Zachary Hudson Stevens and Elias Albert Nelson.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Christ Community Church, PO Box 1881, 387 Pennsylvania Avenue, Southern Pines, NC 28388 or FirstHealth Hospice, 150 Applecross Road, Pinehurst, NC 28374.

Boles Funeral Home of Pinehurst is serving the family.
