The funeral service will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at Pleasant Grove Christian Church with the Rev. Tim Strider and the Rev. Mark Strickland officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends Wednesday from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Loflin Funeral Home in Ramseur, and other times at the residence.
A Chatham County native, Mr. Kidd graduated salutatorian of Bennett School. He was a retired farmer, former owner and operator of Kidd's Grocery, a former Chatham County Sheriff Deputy, and a member of Pleasant Grove Christian Church.
During World War II, from 1941 to 1945, Mr. Kidd worked at N.C. Ship Building in Wilmington, where he was a ship's plumber.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Nellie Leonard Kidd; his son, Louis Kidd Jr.; his brothers, Henry Kidd and Charlie Kidd; and his sister, Cornie Greene.
Mr. Kidd is survived by his sons, Johnny Kidd and Jerry Kidd, both of Bennett, and Jimmy Kidd, of Bear Creek; his brother, Norman Kidd, of Coleridge; his sisters, Margaret Maness, of Robbins, Dorothy Hancock Martindale, of South Carolina, Cordia Shelton, of High Point, and Johnsie Bouldin, of Bennett; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and two stepgrandchildren.
