Andrews Delights Readers With Latest Novel

BY LISA DEES: SPECIAL TO THE PILOT

Savannah Breeze

By Mary Kay Andrews

HarperCollins, 2006, $24.95

BeBe Loudermilk is a Southern belle from Savannah who seems to have her business life well under control. She's the owner of a successful restaurant as well as something of a real estate mogul.

Her romantic life is a shambles, though. At 35 she's already been divorced three times and now her fiancé says he's remarrying his ex-wife. So when she meets handsome, sophisticated Ryan Edward "Reddy" Millbanks III, she is intrigued. He may be "the one."

What really convinces her is the way he so thoughtfully takes care of business matters for her while she copes with her crotchety grandfather and her grandmother, who has taken ill.

The trouble is, Reddy isn't really Reddy. In fact, he's Roy Eugene Mosley, a small-time crook. And this isn't the first time he's taken a woman for all her assets, which is exactly what happened to BeBe. Her accounts have been emptied, and her rental properties, her home and all its contents have been sold except for a small motel on Tybee Island called the Breeze Inn.

Once her grandmother is out of the hospital and doing fine, Bebe heads off to see the one place she has left.

Although she plans to sell the motel as soon as possible; she soon finds out that she is unable to do so because Reddy has sold an option on the property. BeBe decides to see if she can turn a run-down 1950s-style motel into a money-making business.

With the help of her best friend, Weezie, and the resident handyman, Harry, they manage to have the place ready for business by St. Patrick's Day and things start to come together.

Then she gets a call that Reddy has been spotted in Fort Lauderdale and she, Weezie, Harry and her grandfather devise a plan to head to Florida and scam the scammer.

Once again, Andrews has written a delightful and hilarious story of romance and revenge, served Southern-style.
